Writers here aren’t pressured by deadlines, forced to finish games at the expense of enjoying them.
They aren’t paid up by PR staff, wanting review scores to be bumped up.
Reviewers play the games they want, at the pace they feel is best, in order to provide a relevant perspective to the reader. Journalistic integrity at work. Remember what that was?
Don’t feel like a particular review concentrates on what you feel is important? That’s fine. Read one written by one of the other writers. They might consider more closely on the issues you feel are more important. Multiple reviews of the same game mean multiple perspectives, which in turn means more value for the reader.
What does this mean?
It means even if one Blalab writer gets swept up by hype, another is always there, ready to tap them on the shoulder and bitchslap some rationality back into them. It means that you, as the reader, can place weight on a review depending on the writer’s history. You decide how much to trust their judgement, based on how much their views align with yours.
